HOSPICE WINE SALE
1. Our wine fundraiser for the Rotary House Hospice Oct 22 for 5 weeks. It will be a great opportunity to sell multiple cases to business who can use the wine had Holiday Gifts for Staff and Customers.
2. Three cases will be offered, red, white & mixed. Each will have two different wines (so six of each). The cost will be $175. The value will be $187. $25 goes to Hospice. No paper forms: orders will be submitted securely online (so each buyer will get an acknowledgement). Harvest Wines are assuming we will sell approx 300 cases total. There will be no substitutions: it will say "sold out" so no-one orders wine that does not exist.
3. Pickup will happen 7+ days later. Harvest is looking at a courier option (no delivery) at additional cost. The online order form will have Rotary & Hospice logos. Cases will not have packing slips (so no HST confusion) Cases will not be named for each customer. Only Red, White and Mixed will mean quicker to pick up.
SPECIAL SPEAKER NEXT WEEK
Special speaker next week will be Greg Coldwell District Governor. President Bob asks that all of us attend if at all possible to show our support for Rotary.

The next meeting of the Rotary Club of Halifax will be Thursday, October 10 at 7:30 am at R.A. Park and the District Governor will be in attendance.

Health of the Club: Bob Power was not present as a result of hurting his back moving furniture.
Roy Hayward – Paul Harris Awards will be presented at Dinner on November 28. If any member knows of anyone in community who would be appropriate to receive the Award please give Roy their name.
Terry Pond – Vacation Draw tickets are starting to sell. Members should promote the 3 for $250. by telling them of tax advantages.
Marlon Hagerty – Tree Project still needs sponsors. He has prepared a letter that can be sent to companies that might be sponsors. Please give Marlon the company name, address and contact person and he will prepare a letter that can be sent.

Cemal drew the nine of diamonds. Next week - $240.
Guest Speaker: Brian Burnell introduced Tony Trimper of Sun Life Financial. Tony is from Bear River, Nova Scotia and attended Acadia University.
Tony had a visual presentation and distributed 2 leaflets. He spoke mainly on Estate Planning. Early in life people think of income protection and as they get older estate protection is their concern. He reviewed the
various steps of financial planning and how to build a financial strategy. The members asked several questions on investments. He was very positive about tax free savings accounts. He held a draw for the book “15 Secrets A Tax Man Doesn't Want You To Know” and he drew Tad Mejzner’s name. Bill VanGorder thanked Tony and presented him with a Rotary mug.
The meeting adjourned with the singing of “ O Canada” led by Terry Pond.
Special speaker next week will be Greg Coldwell District Governor, October 10, 2013, 7:30 am at RA Park with the annual visit of the District Governor. All members are requested to attend.
