( Introducer to be identified at the meeting as Jane MacEachern will be away in Florida for the next three weeks) Report on the Meeting of Thursday March 18th. 2010 by Bridge Pachai: Venue: Royal Artillery Park, Queen's Street, Halifax, N.S. Chair: PP. Roy Martin Sgt.-At-Arms: PP.Harry Churchill. Desk: Francisco Lorenzo and Cliff Tyner. Guest Speakers: Claudia Jahn and John Hartling. Grace: Dale Crory. Health of the Club: Fred Brooks is improving. Club Announcements: PP. Jim Axell: -two sessions of A.B.C's of Fraud conducted; one in Bridgewater, the other in Timberlea; -also that Edith Ross made a donation to the Rotary Foundation in memory of the late Rotarian Gordon Ross, President of the Club in 1974-5. Dale Crory: - Canada Post will produce a stamp to mark the hundredth anniversary of Rotary, this will coincide with the R.I. Convention in Montreal. PP. Bridge Pachai: -the speakers' roster till June 30 is complete. He reminded the Club that he is taking time off from this and other duties and has asked that interested members consider working on the list now for the new Rotary year: July 1 2010-June 30, 2011. Secretary Heather MacDonald: -made an appeal for the donation of used eye glasses Happy Moments: Dale Crory, Bridge Pachai and Jim Axell came forward. Weekly Draw: No winner. Guest Speakers Introduced by Jane MacEachern: Claudia Jahn is the Program Director of Community Action on Homelessness; has a passion for social justice and the development of affordable housing; she brings a professional background in housing development and property management from Berlin, Germany. John Hartling has worked with youth in foster care for the past ten years; went abroad to supervise community projects with Canada World Youth and is currently Director of Community Initiatives with Community Action on Homelessness. Claudia recounted her experiences and efforts to get the homeless off the streets, striving to change perceptions and working on affordable housing. John Hartling gave a video presentation on the subject. In the discussion that followed both elaborated on problems and prospects regarding housing and related services. Chairman Roy Martin presented both with our Rotary mugs. Adjournment: Elizabeth Glenister led in O'Canada. Do you have your tickets yet? How many have you SOLD?
